Helene Winston (1922–2004)

On my beautiful fall walk through the cremation gardens at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto, I discovered the urn niche of Winnipeg-born actress, Helene Winston.

Helene was best known to Canadian audiences for her role as Gladys King on the 1970s sitcom King of Kensington, where she charmed viewers with her wit and presence. Her acting career stretched far beyond Canadian television, with appearances on classic American shows like The Monkees, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Sanford and Son, and Bewitched.

She also appeared in more than a dozen films, including the 1975 cult favourite, A Boy and His Dog, starring a young Don Johnson.

Helene Winston passed away in Los Angeles, California, on March 6, 2004, at the age of 81.
