Lester B. Pearson: Three generations of his family are buried at Toronto’s Prospect Cemetery
On my bike ride from downtown Toronto, I arrived at Prospect Cemetery on St. Clair Avenue to visit the family graves of Canada’s fourteenth Prime Minister, Lester B. Pearson.
My first visit was to Lester’s immediate family plot where his father, The Reverend Edwin Arthur Pearson a Methodist minister and his mother Annie Sarah Bowles Pearson rest, along with his brothers, Marmaduke (Duke) Pearson, Lester’s older brother, who served in the Royal Naval Air Service during WWI and his younger brother Vaughan Pearson who played semi-pro baseball with Lester with the Guelph Maple Leafs. A team formed 1861 and two years later owned by beer maker, George Sleeman, who also pitched and later managed the team.
Near the main gates of the cemetery rests Lester Pearson’s paternal grandparents, The Reverend Marmaduke L. Pearson, who was a highly respected Methodist minister along his wife, Hester Ann Pearson.
It was said that Lester Pearson was the “son of a preacher” you can also add “grandson of a preacher”.
