Herman Munster in the hit show, The Munsters worked in a funeral home

Herman Munster in the hit television show, The Munters (1964-66), played by Fred Gwynne, worked at Gateman, Goodbury and Graves Funeral Home in the Mockingbird Heights neighbourhood.

Munster was strong and tall and generally well-liked by his co-workers, who appreciated his good nature despite his imposing appearance. His employer was Mr. Gateman, a shrewd businessman portrayed by horror icon John Carradine.

Herman started as a “box boy” and was described as a grave digger and general funeral parlour employee. His immense strength was particularly useful for lifting occupied caskets unassisted.  Herman was frequently picked up for work by the “company car,” which was a hearse. He typically rode in the back as if he were a body being delivered. Classic!
