MADD Canada’s direct message to those visiting Dartmouth cemetery

On a recent trip to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, I visited Dartmouth Memorial Gardens and paused to read the powerful message etched in stone by MADD Canada. The memorial also highlighted the staggering number of lives lost to impaired and reckless driving.

MADD Canada is a charitable, grassroots organization dedicated to ending impaired driving and supporting victims, survivors, and families affected by this violent crime.

For the few moments I stood there, I was struck by the overwhelming number of lives lost and the profound impact these tragedies have had on so many individuals, families, and communities.

A very necessary memorial to remember and honour those lost, but also a sobering reminder of a chronic problem that continues to persist—and in many places, worsen.
