Section 25 at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, New York

On a recent visit to Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, Westchester County, about 25 miles north of New York City, I went looking for its most popular spot, Section 25.

Section 25 is likely visited more than any other part of the cemetery, thanks to the prominent names buried in and around it. Baseball legend Babe Ruth lies here, his monument usually surrounded by baseballs, bats and caps left by fans. Yankees manager Billy Martin rests just a short walk away, and publishing icon Condé Nast is buried nearby.

Set on a gentle hillside, this beautiful cemetery is well worth a visit for any taphophile, or for anyone who loves nature and an enjoyable walk.
