Sedimentary gravestones don’t stand the test of time like granite

Common sedimentary rocks include sandstone, limestone and marble. These rocks often start as sediments carried in rivers and deposited in lakes and oceans. When buried, the sediments lose water and become cemented to form rock.

The use of “soft stones” for monuments over time and in certain climates conditions can erode, especially sandstone and limestone.
