The 100 Workers Monument and the many who faced a tragic ending

On my Canada Day walk, I discovered “The 100 Workers Monument” on Front Street beside the CBC building. Each commemorative plate describes one worker who died an unnatural death due to work-related accidents from 1901 to 1999.

One worker fell under a train while another fell off a high building. The last plaque is left blank, indicative of impending tragedies and the need to ensure greater safety.

Reading the names on the monument and the circumstances in which workers died was a sobering reality.
