Holy Blossom cemetery

On my walk at Holy Blossom Memorial Park Cemetery, Toronto with a gavel in hand, I discovered the grave of Bora Laskin.

He was given his nickname because it was noted that his father, who would attend his son’s games, would shout: “That’s mine, boy.”

Phillips was an active Progressive Conservative in his youth in his hometown of Brockville, Ontario. The young man would go on to study law and his love of politics brought him to Toronto where he would serve as Toronto’s 53rd mayor for seven years (1955-62).

Johnny Wayne was born Louis Weingarten in 1918 and Frank Shuster was 2 years younger. They both met in the drama club at Harbord Collegiate in the Annex-Palmerston-Little Italy neighbourhood and followed each other to the University of Toronto just down the street where they performed as Shuster and Wayne.
