On my beautiful walk at Padres Shalom Cemetery, Vaughan, Ontario, I discovered the family plot of Toronto’s great discount retailer and leading impresario, Honest Ed Mirvish.

Albert Samuel Waxman was born in Toronto where his Polish parents operated and owned Melinda Lunch, a small luncheon located across the street from the old Globe and Mail building on Front Street and Spadina.

Gerry was a born entrepreneur and had established himself in the restaurant business (Curly Joe’s) in his home town of Montreal followed by the meat packing business in Calgary and finally the investment industry in Calgary and Toronto that would eventually crash.
