Bobby Kuntz pound for pound one of the toughest and best football players ever to play in the CFL

On my walk through Woodlawn Cemetery in Kitchener, Ontario—with my Wilson football in hand—I came across the grave of a true Canadian football legend: Bobby Kuntz.

A McMaster University graduate, Bobby was a tough, versatile player who shone in the CFL for over eleven seasons, suiting up for both the Toronto Argonauts and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Born in Detroit, Bobby moved to Kitchener, Ontario, where his family founded the successful business Kuntz Electroplating Inc. But it was on the football field where Bobby left his mark.

A rare two-way player, Kuntz played linebacker and fullback, and was even recognized as an Eastern Conference all-star at three different positions—a remarkable feat.

He capped off his career with two Grey Cup victories with Hamilton in the 1960s under head coach Ralph Sazio.

Bobby Kuntz died in Waterloo, Ontario on February 7, 2011. He was 79.
