As we approach Remembrance Day we give thanks to Six Nations veterans

During my visit to Six Nations of the Grand River, I stopped at the Six Nations Veterans Park, where an impressive cenotaph stands in honour of the men and women of Six Nations who served and sacrificed for the greater good.

While the exact number of Six Nations individuals who enlisted in the First World War is not known, it is estimated that more than 4,000 Indigenous people served in the Canadian forces, with a significant number coming from the Six Nations community. Remarkably, about 20% of the Six Nations population served during the Second World War — a powerful testament to their courage, commitment, and contribution.
