The most guarded grave in the world…

On my walk at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C., I visited the world’s most guarded grave, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

As we sat in silence, I was able to take a series of photographs of a super disciplined Marine guarding the grave. In 1937, the guards became a 24/7 presence, standing watch over the Unknown Soldier at all times. The 3rd U.S. Infantry, known as “the old guard” are the Infantry responsible for guarding the grave rain or shine.

When the cemetery is closed at night, the 3rd Infantry Regiment is on it 24/7, no breaks. Guards rotate every hour on the hour from sunset to sunrise with a quieter ceremony.
