Andre Dawson’s second act, he runs a funeral home

The great Montreal Expo and Chicago Cub, Andre Dawson, and I share something unique—our families both run funeral homes.

“The Hawk,” who played 21 years in the majors, invested in a funeral home after his playing career in his hometown of Miami, Florida, alongside his brother Vincent, an attorney.

Paradise Memorial Funeral Home was established in 2008. After its closing, Andre bought and personally redesigned and upgraded the facility to better serve the South Miami-Dade community.

Andre once said, “You don’t know where God is going to lead you, and this never would have in my wildest imagination been something I would have thought that I’d be doing, but I feel like maybe this is my calling.”
